About Shreya
A rare phenomenon that has happened to Bollywood, after years of vaccum in vocal melody, in Indian Playback singing, is Shreya Ghoshal. My personal all time favourite happens to be Mohd Rafi. Now, when I had lost all hopes for Bollywood music, I heard Shreya Ghoshal in Jism. When I see the photo of Shreya displayed on the left, I see a twinke in her eyes and her vocals lead me deep into the creative world. Her sweet smile can soothe many tensed nerves.
Shreya Ghoshal was born in the year 1984. She belongs to a highly academic family. They were residing in a simple place near Kota, Rajasthan. Her father is an engineer in the nuclear power plant and mother a post graduate in literature. Music runs in their veins. Her mother is a good singer and whenever she used to chedh a note on the harmonium, the angel, Shreya would sing it correctly on her own. The child prodigy got an introduction to music at the age of four. Since that tender age, she has shown a substancial amount of interest in music. Her father recognized her talent and decided to give her proper training in Hindustani classical music.
It was in a talent hunt show conducted on Zee TV, TVS Sa Re Ga Ma, that conferred her, her first stand. Being a perpetual contestant and winner of several episodes, she was selected for the 75th Children’s special episode. Victory led her to children’s megal final in 1996. She was then only 12 years old.
During one of the episodes, Sanjay Leela Bhansali heard her and was very impressed. He promised her to offer a song or a two in his upcoming movie, Devdas. Sanjay kept his word, and marked her debut as a singer in the movie.
Shreya is a good singer with a good voice. From, winning accolades as a child singer, to, working with some of the top names in the film and music business. The journey was not very hard for Shreya as she had become an young achiever in such a short span. She is the winner of eight major awards including the national award in 2003.
She enjoys Symphony and instrumental in western music and her favourite is ABBA group. Indian music is definitely her soul. Her voice has a texture that suits romantic songs and she can express it very well. She is also comfortable singing sad songs or peppy songs. She has already sung in Regional languages, such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi.
